Dolly Parton stands as a premier icon in the cultural and musical landscape—a country music titan, savvy entrepreneur, and dedicated humanitarian with a life journey that mirrors the depth of her melodies.

Dolly Rebecca Parton was born on January 19, 1946, in a small one-room cabin in rural Sevier County, near the Great Smoky Mountains. She was the fourth of 12 children in a very poor family. Despite hardship, music was everywhere—she grew up singing in church and listening to Appalachian folk songs.

By age 10, she was already performing on local radio and TV shows in Knoxville.

More Details about Dolly Parton

Right after graduating high school, Dolly moved to Nashville—the heart of country music—to pursue her dreams. At first, she found success as a songwriter, penning hits for other artists.

Her big break came when she partnered with country star Porter Wagoner in the late 1960s. Their duets made her a household name, but Dolly eventually made the bold decision to go solo.
